Sound Waves Word Study is an evidence-informed literacy program for Years 3–6. The program provides explicit teaching in phoneme–grapheme relationships and spelling patterns (orthography), word parts (morphology) and word origins (etymology).
The Sound Waves Student Book 5 activities allow students to immediately apply the concepts taught in each lesson.
Activities include:
- segmenting words into phonemes and identifying graphemes
- reading and spelling words
- vocabulary-building exercises
- working with essential morphology and etymology concepts
- challenges
Each book contains an introductory unit that establishes the core concepts needed to begin working with the program, along with 35 units covering the 43 phonemes of Australian English and their most common graphemes.
The back of the book includes a dedicated section for students to segment every Focus Word, as well as a list of Extension Words for every unit.
