Description
The Support set of Year 1 Decodable Readers follows the Sound Waves systematic synthetic phonics sequence. The books have been meticulously written within tightly controlled parameters to only include the phoneme–grapheme relationships and Special Words taught in the sequence.
Each book provides targeted reading practice where students have specific opportunities to apply their knowledge of phoneme–grapheme relationships in continuous, meaningful texts. Over time, this leads to rapid and accurate word recognition and improves reading fluency.
There are 53 different books in the Year 1 Support set. Each book in the set features a focus phoneme–grapheme relationship, charming illustrations and a captivating story.
Books in the Support set also include:
- a focus on CVC words
- two-syllable words
- words with the suffixes s, ed and ing
- newly learned Special Words from the Sound Waves Literacy teaching sequence
- a constrained word count of 50–100 words.
In addition, every Decodable Reader includes a Warm Up section with words containing the focus phoneme–grapheme relationship, Book Chat questions to encourage students to reflect on what they are reading, and tips for helping students during reading.
